In the latest mysterious fairy tale from Warner Bros., the story begins long before Hook turned bad and Peter Pan grew up to become the Boy Who Never Grew Up. Director Joe Wright, who's best known for his work on films like Atonement (2007), Anna Karenina (2012), and Hanna (2011), enlisted a star-studded cast for the movie to battle Jackman's villainous character Blackbeard.

Jackman looks completely unrecognizable, sporting a rather interesting beard and mustache that offsets his character's pale face and sunken eyes.
Garrett Hedlund stars as young Hook, who surprisingly introduces himself with an American accent. Rooney Mara portrays Native American princess Tiger Lily, a casting decision that incited controversy earlier this year.

The trailer begins with little Peter (played by newcomer Levi Miller) being raised in an orphanage. His mother has left him and promises to see her son again "in this world or another." One night as he sleeps soundly, Peter is kidnapped and shipped off to Neverland, where he encounters all sorts of whimsical, magical happenings.

According to Variety, the adaptation (which is a spin on J.M. Barrie's classic tale) takes place during World War II. Other stars who were cast in the film include Amanda Seyfried and supermodel Cara Delevingne, who makes a small appearance in the trailer as a mermaid.
The film hits theaters July 17, 2015. Watch above!
