American Horror Story: Freak Show Opening Credits Are as Creepy as You'd Expect

Consider Us sufficiently freaked out! Ryan Murphy continued to whet fans' appetites for American Horror Story: Freak Show on Wednesday, Oct. 1, this time with a sneak peek of the creepy opening credits sequence.

"Halloween Season has begun!" he tweeted. "Here's the Freak Show Main Titles. 1 WEEK until premiere. Happy October! #WeAreAllFreaks"

In keeping with the theme of AHS' fourth installment, the credits feature sinister-looking clown figurines (some with rotating heads), cartoonish moving skeletons, fanged toy monkeys, and mutant dolls with extra (and extra-terrifying) body parts. And if that's not enough to spook you, it's all set to an eerie soundtrack of carnival music.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly , Freak Show is set in Jupiter, Fla., in the 1950s, and follows a group of uniquely gifted performers. AHS vet Jessica Lange will play the "maestro" of the bunch, alongside a bearded Kathy Bates, a three-breasted Angela Bassett, and a two-headed Sarah Paulson (whose character is actually a set of conjoined twins).

"I think this year, without a doubt, will be my favorite," Lange told EW last month. "In a way, it was an idea that I had wanted to explore for a while. I think just the richness of it and the time and the place and the characters — I just think it's going to be unique. And I think, to my mind, what I've seen already and what we've done, it will far surpass anything we've done before."
