Losing him was blue like she'd never known. Taylor Swift looks "gray and all alone" as Rosemary on the promotional poster of The Giver, which was revealed Thursday, May 22.
As evidenced in the black-and-white picture, the country-pop star has transformed—dramatically—for her role. Swift appears to be made-under on the colorless promotional shot, ditching her blonde hair for wavy brunette tresses parted down the center, while keeping her lips neutral in color.

One feature that still remains the same? Swift's baby blue eyes. "The truth lies in her past," the megastar's poster reads. (In Lois Lowry's classic dystopian young adult novel, on which the film is based, Rosemary is mentored by the Giver, the memory-bearing, color-seeing title character played by Jeff Bridges in the film. Eventually—and spoiler alert!—Swift's storyline turns into one of tragedy.)
Though her story is sad, Swift expressed how happy she was to work with the A-list cast last November. "I couldn't believe it was happening to me," she gushed to Access Hollywood . The actors as a whole grew close while filming The Giver in South Africa last year. "I learned so much," she added of working alongside Bridges, Meryl Streep , and Katie Holmes .

Streep, who plays the villainous role of Chief Elder in the movie, appears stern on her poster. "When people have the power to choose, they choose wrong," it reads.

Holmes looks parental on her poster—and it's fitting because she plays the role of Jonas' mother in the flick. "The elders are never wrong," Holmes' promotional pic says.
Finally, the character of Jonas, played by Brenton Thwaites, appears heroic on his pic. "You can make things better," it reads.
The Giver hits theaters on Aug. 15.
