Severe weather alert! Yet another city will face potential destruction when Sharknado 3 hits Syfy in the summer of 2015, the network announced in a press release on Wednesday, April 30.

The first sequel in the made-for-TV franchise, Sharknado 2: The Second One, has yet to even air, but if the response to last summer's inaugural broadcast is any sign of things to come, producers are smart to lock up a third installment. Some 1.4 million viewers tuned in to watch the original flick in 2013, and social media was flooded -- pun intended -- with Sharknado tweets following the premiere.

"I'm just as stunned as everyone else," Sharknado star Tara Reid told HLN earlier this year of the massive success of the movie. "Come on, I did it as a joke! I didn't even think anyone was going to see it. And then what happened has never happened before on any movie. Even now, you thought the buzz was going to stop about Sharknado, but it just keeps going."

That's due in part to the upcoming Sharknado 2, which is set to premiere on Syfy on July 30. Reid and costar Ian Ziering will reprise their roles from the first film, alongside franchise newcomers Vivica A. Fox and Mark McGrath.
"I can't tell too much -- I'm not allowed to, to be honest with you -- but you can definitely expect it to be as entertaining, if not more, believe it or not, as the first one," Reid told HLN of the sequel, which takes place in New York. She went on to recall a scene in the first film in which she ends up in the stomach of a shark, saying, "You think, 'How are you going to top that?' Well, we're actually pretty close to topping it."
